Thank you for visiting the International Dragon Boat Association's (IDBA) website.
Founded in 1996, IDBA is a non-profit public benefits 501(c)3 corporation. Our
vision is to use dragon boat racing as a vehicle to bring the diverse community
together, support and encourage youth, while preserving art, culture and tradition.
In the last eight years, the organization's signature event, the annual festival, has been very successful and has positively impact our community, both locally, nationally and internationally.
However, this success has come at a price. The festival and its phenomenon growth has consumed all available resources making it difficult to formalize our Youth Program. As a result, we have decided to suspend the festival for this year and make 2004, the year that we will formalize our Youth Dragon Boat Program. To highlight:
Our signature dragonboat festival, the California International Dragon Boat Festival, at Jack London Square will be suspended this year in favor of establishing our Youth Dragon Boat Program. The 8th Annual California International Dragon Boat Festival, "Return of the Dragon" will return on August 13-14, 2005.
We will be launching our Youth Dragon Boat Program out of Oakland's Park and Recreation Department at Lake Merritt and the Jack London Aquatic Center under its Aquatic Programming.
Adult teams can still register a team and practice out of Lake Merritt or the Jack London Aquatic Center. Fees and rates will be posted.
Please browse through our website to learn more about these exciting opportunties to participate. The tabs at the top of the page will direct you to content specific to each of IDBA's programs.
