to stimulate the local economy. Lastly, I wanted to demonstrate through

Why IDBA?
"I would like to serve on the Board because I see an opportunity
to introduce a sport to people who ordinarily do not get an opportunity
to participate in team sports. I'm particularly interested in helping
Hispanic women get into non-traditional activities to expand their
thinking and skill set. Traditionally, we have been raised to focus
on domestic endeavors rather than on higher education or non-traditional
occupations. This type of sport helps people to explore other options,
learn team-building skills, and to enhance their self esteem. It
is also an opportunity for them to develop a sense of community and
camaraderie with people outside of their culture. I want to be part
of a project which would utilize my 30 years of community involvement
and which would enrich the Hispanic community generally and enhance
the development of our youth in particular."

looking for activities and options for youth and ways to capture
their interest and imagination. Only by providing young men and women
with positive learning experiences can we hope to build the confidence
and self esteem they need to reject the choices offered to them by
the streets. IDBA offers an opportunity for youth and adults to come
together in a structured, creative endeavor that builds not only
skills, but the image of our community as a multi-racial, multi-cultural,

Why IDBA?
"I believed strongly in multi-culturalism and we are at
a stage where each of us need to promote multi-culturalism by being
involved in projects that support this notion. Because of my travels
in Asia, I saw the importance of making the global connection between
countries and their communities. By merging the best in all of us,
we can have a stronger community. We must think global and act local."
